These are the basic tools used in Wicca.
A broom or besom
The broom is a powerful tool against curses and practitioners of evil magic. Placing a broom across a threshold will stop all spells sent to a house or those resident within. Placing a broom under a pillow guards the sleeper and brings pleasant dreams.
Some Wiccans’ begin a ritual by sweeping the area lightly with the magic broom. Sweeping the area is more than a physical cleansing. The broom’s bristles need not touch the ground. By sweeping, the astral buildup that occurs where humans live is removed.
If you want to make your magical broom you can. Old magic brooms are made of ash for the handle, birch twigs and a willow binding. The ash is protective, the birch is purifying and the willow is sacred to the Goddess. However, if you can’t get a hold of those items, a branch from any tree will do. For example I made mine out of maple for the handle.
Wand
The wand is the number one tool. It is sometimes used to direct energy , to draw magical symbols or a circle on the ground, to point toward danger or even stir brew in a cauldron. If you would like to make you own wand, some of the traditional woods used for wands are willow, oak, peach, elder, hazel and cherry. The wand is usually cut the length from the crook of your elbow to the tip of your forefinger. Wooden dowels will even work. One method often used is to fill a hollow copper tube with gemstone cips and herbs and to seal the ends with wax.
Censer
A censer is an incense burner. It can be simple like a cup or bowl half-filled with sand or salt to a complex metal swinging censer. Cone, stick, block or raw/granulated incense can be used. A Wiccan ritual preformed inside isn’t complete without incense. The Goddess and the God can sometimes be seen in the smoke. “Spirits” are also sometimes commanded to appear in the rising smoke of the incense.
Cauldron
Wiccans’ is the cauldron as a symbol of the Goddess. The cauldron is often a focal point of a ritual. It should be made of iron, with three legs and an opening smaller than its widest part. The cauldron can be an instrument of scrying by filling it with water. It can also serve as a container to brew Wiccan brews.
Athame
The Athame isn’t used for cutting purposes but to direct the energy raised during rites and spells. It’s seldom used to invoke or call upon the Goddess and the God because the Athame is an instrument of commanding and power manipulation. The Athame is a double edged dull knife with a dark handle. Some of the powers from the rituals are absorbed into the handle, which can be called on later.
Boline
The boline is a magickal knife specifically used for cutting. Generally it has a light or white handle and it often has a crescent-shaped blade. In Goddess-centered Wicca it often takes the place of the Athame as a directing tool.
Crystal Ball
The crystal ball can be used to receive messages from the Gods, and images of the Goddess or of past lives. It can be placed on the altar to represent the Goddess.
Chalice
The chalice can be made of any of these items, silver, gold, brass, soapstone, earthenware, crystal or alabaster. It's used to hold water or hold a ritual beverage during a rite.
Pentacle
A pentacle is flat and made of wood, silver, brass, clay or wax. It's used for protection and to evoke spirits. The pentacle represents the element of earth. Pentacles can also be hung over windows and doors.
The Book of Shadows
The Book of Shadows contains invocations, rituals, rules governing magic, spells, runes, and other magical information. This book is written by you, so you can add other items that you would like,
You can make your own Book of Shadows. All you need is a 3-ring binder and some paper. This way you can orginize as you go. Or you can buy a blank book at a local book store.

I don't know whether you consider this a tool or not but it's something i heard of.
Dreaming Stones: go to a boundary stream and with closed eyes, take from the water 3 stones between middle finger and thumb, saying as each stone is gathered I will lift the stone As Mary lifted it for her son, For substance, virtue, and strenght; May this stone be in my hand Till I reach my journey's end. Carry them home and place them under your pillow. That night ask for a dream that will give you guidance or a solution to a problem. |
